Daniel James Holmes - December 4, 1967 - February 7, 2025

Daniel James Holmes, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away on February 7, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 57 years old.

Dan was born on December 4, 1967, and was adopted at birth by Jim and Evelyn Holmes, who raised him with his siblings (Sandy and Jude) on the family farm near Arcadia, Nebraska. Growing up, he learned the values of hard work and perseverance, which shaped his life.

After graduating from Arcadia High School, Dan continued farming alongside his father until Jim's passing in 1998. Over the years, he took on a variety of jobs, including working on harvest crews in Kansas and Texas, serving as a ranch hand in Broken Bow, and most recently, maintaining Nebraska's highways by mowing and trimming roadside ditches. No matter the job, Dan took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand to those in need.

Dan was an organ and tissue donor and was able to give to others after he passed. He will be remembered for his quiet resilience, his connection to the land, and his dedication to the people and places he called home.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Evelyn Holmes and brother-in-law David (Sandy) Dubbs. He leaves behind his sister Sandy Holmes Dubbs of Loup City, NE, and brother Jude (Denae) Holmes of Kingwood, TX. Nephews Norman and Joseph Merrill (Sandy's boys) and niece LeAire (Jude's stepdaughter). Great niece and nephew Allison and Elijah Merrill (Norm's children), and great niece Scottlyn Merrill (Joe's daughter).

A celebration of life will be held at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington, NE on February 22, 2025, at 11:00 am. Lunch to follow from 11:30-2:30.

Instead of flowers, donations are suggested in his honor to Live On Nebraska (https://liveonnebraska.org/) or Hospice House Omaha (https://hospicehouseomaha.org/).

Dan's family and friends will cherish his memory and the impact he had on those around him.

Special thanks to Dan's cousin (and best friend) Kirk Holmes and his wife Sonya for taking care of Dan and his wishes in his final 2 weeks.
