Darlene H. Hughes, age 80, passed away December 16, 2016 at Parson's House On Eagle Run. She was born on April 13, 1936 in Whiting, Iowa to the late Eugene and Leona (Johnson) Hughes.
Darlene grew up in Whiting and into a musical family. After graduating from Whiting High School, she worked in Sioux City and later in Omaha. She went to Cincinnati, Ohio and attended college at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music Radio/TV Department and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She worked at WCET-TV in Cincinnati while attending college.
After graduating, she went to Hollywood, CA and worked at KHJ-TV for 7 years were she met many celebrities through her association with the TV station. Later, she went to Los Angeles School of Chiropractic and after graduating worked as a chiropractor for 20 years.
She was very active in her church in Los Angeles and was a member of the singles group, the Deltas, and they continued their friendship until her death. She was always involved in music and enjoyed many evenings at concerts, plays and taping of shows while in California. She moved to Omaha in 1996 and enjoyed being with family and friends. Several of her friends from Whiting continued to stay in touch with a Round Robin letter.
In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her brother Wayne Hughes and his wife, Pat and sister, Delores Swenson.
She is survived by her sister, Faye Struble; brother-in-law, Arlyn Swenson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service will be Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Whiting Christian Church. Inurnment will be in the Harrison Cemetery in Whiting.
