Dorothy R. Bish

Papillion Dorothy Ruth Bish, died at home on Monday, May 8th, 2017. A celebration of her life will be held at the retirement community where she resided: Hillcrest Country Estates, 6021 Grand Lodge Avenue, in Papillion on Saturday, May 27th from 2 pm 4 pm.

Dorothy was born June 1st, 1929 to John and Imogene (Splinter) Florea on her parent's farm southeast of Aurora. She was the eldest of two children. Dorothy graduated from Aurora Public High School and received a bachelor's degree in English from Kearney State College.

On February 10, 1952 she married J. William (Bill) Bish at the First Christian Church in Aurora. After Bill's return from serving the country in Korea they moved to Blair where they lived for a year. The couple next moved to Fullerton where they raised their four children. She and Bill also resided in Rushville and West Point. Shortly after Bill's death in December of 2010 Dorothy moved to be closer to her family in Papillion. She lived in LaVista and then Papillion.

Dorothy taught English at Fullerton Junior High School and Silver Creek High School. She also spent several years working in rest homes as an aide, activities director and social worker. She and Bill were members of the Fullerton Dance and Bridge Clubs and she was involved with summer Red Cross swim lessons. Dorothy wrote two unpublished novels and many poems. She cherished the stories and laughter that emerged whenever her family would come together. Dorothy was an avid reader, this and cross word puzzles were her favorite pastimes. She had a wonderful green thumb. Her house was always filled with lovely house plants, and with cuttings taking root on window sills to give away. She insisted that wherever she lived there must be large windows with bright sunlight. In addition, Dorothy loved animals, especially her two cats, and enjoyed bird watching from the feeders she faithfully kept filled.

Surviving members include: Brother, Ron and Sister-In-Law, Leslie Florea. Children: Elizabeth Bish and life partner Tom Amend of Gloucester, MA., Bennett Bish, Phillip and Joyce Bish of Centennial, CO., and Aimee (Bish) and Mike Banister of Papillion, NE. Grandchildren: Dana (Bish) and Danny McCausland of Denver, CO., Leslie Bish of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Samantha Bannister of Papillion, She is preceded in death by parents, John and Imogene Florea and husband, Bill Bish.
