Esther May (Batterson) Cantrell peacefully passed Friday, January 12, 2018 in her home at Orchard Gardens in Valley, NE.
Esther was born July 21, 1921 in Coldwater, Michigan to Manley & Pearl Batterson. Esther was the youngest of three siblings. She married her husband, Emmett "Tuck" Cantrell on Feb 24, 1941 in Coldwater, MI. They enjoyed 73 years of matrimony.
Esther & Emmett were self-employed owners of the Jonesville Bakery (aka Tucks Bake shop) in Jonesville, MI. Esther was a master confectioner taking great pride in her beautiful wedding cakes and butter cookies. Together, they owned and operated the business for 33 years up to their retirement in 1979. In retirement, they enjoyed transitioning between Jonesville, MI and Lakeland, FL for the change of seasons until relocating to Columbus, Nebraska in 1998 to be close to family. In Nebraska, they cherished the holidays with family and friends, particularly the Fourth of July, where strawberry shortcake was always served to a large gathering for the Columbus Fireworks Celebration. She always looked forward to Football Saturdays with Tuck to cheer on the Huskers!
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Cantrell April 10, 2014; parents, Manley and Pearl Batterson; brother and sister in law, Royce (Ruth) Batterson; sister and brother in law, Norma (Vernon) Sniff: nephews Dale Batterson and Ronald Sniff.
Esther is survived by two sons, Randy (Kat) Cantrell of Lincoln, NE; Chuck (Carrie) Cantrell of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Robin (Jake Lodwick) Cantrell of New York, NY, Jon (Chelsea) Cantrell of Minneapolis, MN and Caitlin Cantrell of Lakewood, CO, nephew and wife, Bob (Ingrid) Batterson of Litchfield, MI.
A Celebration of Life is to be announced later this spring; one of Esthers favorite seasons. The couples final resting place will be Lockwood Cemetery in Coldwater, MI.
