Helen Wingate

Born 1/20/1940 - 02/04/2024

Preceded in death by parents Thomas Hanley and Jane McGee Hanley, Sister Rene Brisnehan; Brothers Tom and Marty. Survived by husband Larry, Son-Vincent and Daughters-Teri Wingate, Diane (Marty) Saunders and Laura (Mike) Decker and Sister Jerri (Joe) Zbylski.

Helen was born in Denver and moved to Omaha in third grade when her dad was transferred by the USPS when he served as Director of Transportation Omaha Region. She met the love of her life in eighth grade at St. Cecilia's Cathedral grade school when Larry gave her a heart shaped box of chocolates for Valentine's Day. Six years later they were married, and as Larry finished his Navy service and worked at Northwestern Bell/US West, Helen anchored their family and homes in Norfolk VA; Fargo, ND; Omaha, NE and Elkhorn, NE. Helen contributed over the years to church, community, girl scouts and other activities bringing a sharp mind and caring spirit to the world around her, including positions in retail, eventually retiring as a Manager from J.C. Penney's.

At the time of her passing almost 71 years after that first Valentine's Day, Helen and Larry had shared joy and challenges as their family grew with beloved grandchildren Lia (Josh) Bies, Dalton Wingate, Morgan (Dan) Hinch, Holli Wingate and Brittany (Ryan) McChesney and 6 adored great grandchildren - stories of whose daily activities never failed to bring a smile to Helen's face.
