Jill and Dave Banghart, both 86, of Omaha passed away peacefully April 22, 2023 and April 24, 2023, respectfully, at Echo Hills Memory Care. They are both rejoicing in Heaven with their Lord and savior.
Jill was born November 8, 1936, in Omaha to Bradley Moredick and Myrl Fonda. Dave was born December 27, 1936, in Lincoln to Frank Banghart and Marie Strackbein and moved to Omaha when he
was three years old.
Dave and Jill met at North High School at age 15. They were married June 14, 1957, and had three children whom they raised in Omaha. Dave worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years. He played and coached basketball, baseball and softball all his life. He founded Nebraska Senior Softball in 2000 and was inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2010. He continued to play in Omaha and in Marco Island, FL until a few years ago. Jill taught for 20 years and became the Director for
Kindernook preschool before retiring. She was extremely active in the choir at Westside Church and in various women's bible studies. Dave and Jill were members of Westside church until the early 2000's and then Omaha Bible Church until their passing. They looked forward every year to wintering in Marco Island, FL where they had numerous friends and became "beach bums" as they liked to call themselves.
They leave three children: Lori Campbell, Jeff (Tammi) Banghart, and Tim (Shelley) Banghart; former son- in-law Alan Campbell; former daughter-in-law Sally Banghart; grandchildren Nick Campbell, Perry Campbell, Lauren Banghart (Doug Johansen), Megan Banghart, Scott Banghart, Emily Banghart, Elle (Kole) Liermann, Blake Banghart, and Blayne Banghart; step grandsons Gavin Helligso and Baylor Mains (Alyssa Kaiser); and great grandbabies Parker Johansen and Lilah Liermann.
Jill was preceded in death by her siblings Janice, Geraldine, Joyce and Jack. Dave was preceded in death by his sister Judy and is survived by sister Barbara Helmke of Denver.
A celebration of life service will be held in their honor at Omaha Bible Church on Saturday, May 13th at 11am. Lunch will be served immediately following. A private scattering of ashes will follow at a later date.
The family is extremely grateful for the staff at Echo Hills and the kind and caring nurses at Hillcrest Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hope Center for Kids in Dave and Jill's honor.
