Julie Ann Fjare

February 18, 1960 — September 24, 2022

Julie Fjare, age 62, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. She was born February 18, 1960 to Donald and Gwen (Hickman) Bates in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Julie graduated in 1979 from Abraham Lincoln High School and married her husband Mark, September 6, 1980.

After a couple of years Julie began working for Midlands Family Medicine as a receptionist. As she became more familiar with the practice of medicine she decided to go to Omaha College of Health Careers where she graduated as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Julie loved helping people, where her bright smile and sense of humor comforted many. Continuing her work as a CMA, Julie earned her 30-year pin from (what eventually became) CHI Health. She retired in 2015 due to her illness.
Julie loved soccer, camping and working with people, especially when the people involved her family and other health care providers. Her three sons were her special delight. One of her greatest accomplishments as a parent and CMA was her learning about and coaching others in hemophilia. She and Mark both became strong advocates for those who have hemophilia and this knowledge and expertise not only strengthened the family relationship, but also helped her sons grow up to become happy and healthy despite this often debilitating condition.

Julie was preceded in death by her mother Gwen Bates.

She is survived by her father, Don Bates; her husband, Mark Fjare; her sons, Eric (Lyndsey) Fjare, Kyle (Amanda) Fjare, John Fjare; sisters, Lori (Don) Hotz, Sharon Dooley; brother, Steve Bates; and grandson, Johnathon.

A celebration of life will be at 3:00m on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at an acreage: 22377 Old Lincoln Highway (south of Crescent, Iowa). Family and friends are welcome.
Memorials may be made to the Children's Hospital Hematology Clinic in Omaha, Nebraska.
