Leonard Dorrian

Leonard P. "Len" Dorrian, 80, of Omaha, NE, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

A "numbers" guy and family man, Leonard was born in Minneapolis, MN and grew up playing sports, excelling in baseball. He attended Holy Rosary School in Minneapolis for grade school. He graduated from South High School in Minneapolis in 1961, and then earned a bachelor of science degree in business from University of Minnesota in 1965. He was married to Joanne Stephani of Hurley, WI from 1969-1999 and they settled in Schaumburg, IL.

An auditor and accountant for several decades, Leonard contributed to the financial successes of J. C. Penney, Inc. and Honeywell, Inc., but the bulk of his career was in the railroad industry. He worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Company in Chicago, IL for about twenty five years before finishing out his career with the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, NE where he moved in 1996.

After retiring, Leonard found joy in visiting resale shops to scour the latest books. He enjoyed sports, coffee, music from the 1960s, and keeping up with current events by reading the daily newspaper. He adored hearing stories about his four granddaughters and attended their events whenever possible.

He is survived by his his two daughters and their husbands: Jennifer (Joe) DeGroot of Oak Park, IL; Jessica (Joel) Frediani, of Elgin, IL; his son Timothy Dorrian, of Skokie, IL; four granddaughters: Julia, Alyson, Olive, and Hazel; his brother Gary (Karen) Dorrian of Edina, MN; his sister Karren (Bob) Matuska of Mankato, MN and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Thomas Dorrian and Beulah Ione Pietz; and his older brother, James Dorrian.

Interment will be private. In remembrance of Leonard's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Special Olympics.
