Merle Nelson Turner

Merle Nelson Turner, age 88, of Omaha Nebraska formerly of Atlantic IA, entered into rest on February 9th 2019. Merle was born in Ava, Missouri on March 6, 1930 to Claude D. and Diamma M. (Huffman) Turner.

Merle worked at Blue Star Foods until purchasing his parents grocery store, Turner's Grocery in Atlantic IA. Merle and wife Beverly operated the store until 1979. Merle then worked for Henningsens Construction until his retirement and continued as a landlord of rental homes. Merle enjoyed socializing and purchasing items at many auctions in southwest Iowa. He was a friend to all and enjoyed laughter & banter. He will truly be missed.

In addition to his parents Merle was preceded in death by his his wife, Beverly; sister, Opal; brothers, Harrison, Herman, Jess, Raymond, John, Archie, and Willie.

Merle is survived by his sister, Dorothy Christensen; sister-in-law, Beth Turner both of Atlantic IA; children, David Turner of Winnebago Ill, Linda (Gary) Knueven of Manning IA, Randy(Barb) Turner of Fort Dodge IA, Deb(Rue) Johnson of Osceola NE, and Lori Larsen of Omaha NE. Grandchildren, Court (Missi) Cleland and Cameron (Amber) Cleland of Lincoln NE, Nicole (Jason) Urkoski of Omaha NE, Sarah Turner of Council Bluffs IA, Sierra Larsen of Des Moines, IA, Chris Turner of Waterloo IA, Renee(Jim) Wallace of Atlantic IA, Jennifer Roeder of Harlan IA, Jason(Trela) Knueven of Inwood IA, several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

There will be graveside rites at Flint Cemetery in Griswold Iowa on February 23rd, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at the Methodist Church in Atlantic, IA at 12:00 PM for friends and family to visit and celebrate Merle's life. **Services have been canceled due to the National Weather Report**
