William John Bailey, MD Sept 10, 1949 - March 17, 2017
Preceded in death by parents John Lewis Bailey and Rosemary (Gray) Bailey. Survived by wife, Teresa (Wahl) Bailey, Lincoln NE; daughters Arra (Fred) Katona, Wheat Ridge CO & Catherina (Nicholas) Krehbiel, Hutchinson KS; grandchildren Laszlo & Novalyn Katona, Duncan & Bailey Krehbiel; brothers Brian (Theresa) & Philip (Dawn) Bailey; many nephews and nieces.
Bill was born in Anamosa IA and graduated from Anamosa HS, U of IA (BSc), Creighton U (MD) & AAFP residency NARMC Pensacola FL. Bill served in the Navy Reserve from 6-1-1975 thru Jan. 1990, with the first 5 yrs as active reserve, attaining the rank of CDR; With AAFP certification, he doctored in Millington TN, Seward & Lincoln NE, and at the Siouxland Medical Education Foundation in Sioux City IA as Affiliate Faculty with U of IA. Bill found his calling in teaching at the SMEF Family Residency program, receiving the Faculty of the Year Award 5 times. He served on multiple medical committees during his career and was Medical Director for several years at the Lincoln clinic.
Bill treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He would tell you that highlights of his life included participation in international medical missions to Bolivia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Togo, Peru, & Mexico as well as his time in the outdoors with numerous hiking, camping, back-packing, and canoeing trips. Each experience afforded him another episode to add to his repertoire of humorous stories.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held April 1, 3 p.m. at St. Paul UMC, 1144 M ST, Lincoln NE with private family burial at a later date.
